COOLER THAN THE RED DRESS
This blog hasn't seen much postings on aviation news lately, since not much has happened ever since Boeing won the large Qantas order for 787s. We've seen some arguments between A and B about composite fuselages, when A said extensive composites isn't safe enough and B rebuking A's claims and A pretended they never said that since they realized they'd certainly love to introduce more composites to future models etc etc. You know, the boring bits.
But here comes the first aviation news this year that's worth mentioning - Delta unveils new flight attendant uniforms!
You can't always believe your eyes can you? Are they really taking this to the skies, I ask?
"Delta, which is struggling with bankruptcy, just unveiled new flight attendant uniforms. Designer Richard Tyler says they evoke "the classic age of travel."
Alright, so the classic age of travel involes travelling with, what, red bath robes?
Tyler said, 'I designed the uniform to have timeless elegance that reminds us of the classic age of travel.' 31-year veteran flight attendant Ringness, commented, 'The new uniform can't get here fast enough.' Delta plans to debut the new uniforms on board in May. "
Alright, the airline haven't really emerged from chapter 11 bankruptcy protection have they? What a way to secure loyal fliers.
If all of their female FAs gonna wear the red dress... Maybe the designer forgot who he's designing the uniform for. It's not like all FAs have the body of a model. They're wearing that to work, not to the runway. Just imagine your grandma wearing that, while asking you whether you prefer beef or chicken.
Woot. How elegant is that.
That's enough reason for me to avoid flying Delta in the future.
Perhaps the black suit would work though. At least the black suit is better than the current dull blue uniform that goes like this. They call that the prisoner's guard uniform and I concur.
But wait, is it me, or does that new black black jacket really comes with a hoody? And turtleneck for male FAs? What's that all about?
What I do know about:
1. Apparently the airline is setting up fitting clinics and employing style consultants to 'style' their employees. No wonder.
2. To remind passengers of the 'classic age of travel', starts with service. I haven't flown Delta before, but I assume their service is not any more superior than United's. And they're trying so hard to cut fares to compete with LCCs like JetBlue, Southwest etc etc. In conclusion, the classic age of travel is long gone. But I agree they can at least design elegant uniforms and provide better cabin ambience, and to do this, they probably needs to see point no 3.
After her debut single Bad Haircut debuted at somewhere around no.500 in the UK charts last September, Alexis Strum will be releasing the 'follow up' single It Could Be You this March. Give it a listen at http://www.myspace.com/alexisstrum. I think she has re-recorded the track and the clip is the new version of it with slightly different arrangements to the original album version. Very very nice song, I hope it becomes a hit. She writes her songs, pours in all the emotion to her singing and she also has a nice voice. She deserves to be big. And I'll surely say it again when I get more Strum music to share.

I like Heidi a lot and think she's a great performer with a great voice, but I still think Siobhan has got more character and I really wish the 3 of them could stick together.
